Energy stores

Energy storage systems play a key role today and in the future when it comes to the question of how to save energy (green energy) from renewable energy sources. The currently most frequently used energy stores are subdivided into the following groups, depending on the type of extraction: 

  1.  thermic energy
  2.  mechanic energie
  3.  chemical energie
  4.  electrical energie

Many of the aforementioned energy sources are stored in tanks or containers. The excess energy generated from biomass, wind power, water power or solar energy, for example, is stored in tanks or containers. This is where a large part of the production process for storing the energy generated from renewable energy sources takes place. In addition to newly constructed pressure-shock-resistant tanks or vessels in segment design, existing oil or storage tanks can also serve as energy storage tanks if necessary.

SKI Ingenieurges. mbH can offer the following services for the design of new tanks/containers to be constructed and the conversion of existing tanks as energy storage systems:

  • Static calculations in the ultimate and serviceability limit states for tanks/containers incl. foundation and anchoring
  • Inventory and expert assessment of existing tanks/containers with regard to their conversion to energy storage facilities
  • Verifiable static calculation to increase the height of existing tanks/containers - Detailed analysis (e.g. for the manhole, Bob-Cat, nozzles, etc.)
  • Dynamic structural analyses (natural frequency analysis) for defined excitations (e.g. as a result of an agitator) - Verification in the load case: "earthquake" 
  • Pressure vessels (e.g. pressure-shock-resistant design, burst pressure)
  • Stability considerations of steel circular cylinder shells 
  • Expert opinions in the event of damage and emergencies
